Our Story

My journey to founding Intercultural Connections began fifteen years ago in refugee settlement work, where I witnessed the transformative power of cross-cultural understanding firsthand.

Working alongside displaced communities, I saw how genuine connection could bridge seemingly complex differences. Yet I also observed during other professional experiences how traditional diversity approaches often fell short in corporate and institutional settings—preserving separate identities rather than creating space for meaningful exchange.

The turning point came eight years ago when I co-founded Ethno New Zealand/Arts Connections Oceania, connecting artists across global communities. There, in spaces filled with creativity and authentic sharing, I discovered a methodology that worked consistently: human-centred approaches that invited everyone's full participation.

This revelation inspired me to create something new—a consultancy that would bridge my experience in social justice with practical applications for organisations. Drawing from UN human rights principles, intercultural frameworks, and my background spanning both creative and corporate worlds, Intercultural Connections was born.

In today's increasingly polarised landscape, where conversations about identity and inclusion often become battlegrounds, we step forward with courage and clarity. We walk bravely into difficult dialogues with open eyes, equipped with tested methodologies to bridge difference rather than widen divides. Where others see conflict, we see opportunity for growth and transformation.

Today, we bring this unique blend of human connection and strategic thinking to organisations ready to move beyond traditional diversity training toward true inclusion—creating spaces where all voices actively shape their environments and everyone's story matters.

SDGs & Interculturalism

Interculturalism is also closely linked to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By promoting interaction, integration, and mutual respect between diverse groups, interculturalism directly contributes to several SDGs

SDGs

L.R. Knost

" Tell your story. Shout it. Write it. Whisper it if you have to. But tell it.
Some won't understand it. Some will outright reject it. But many will thank you for it.
And then the most magical thing will happen.
One by one, voices will start whispering,

'Me, too.'
And your tribe will gather. And you will never feel alone again."
